I do not really like dealing with Renaissance art in the elementary school. Mainly because of the nudity and the fact that there is a big focus on the Christian religion.I know some parents would object to this being discussed in the classroom. But I decided to do focus on Michelangelo lying on his back to paint the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. We got some low tables in to the art room and stuck student artwork under the tables . They lay on their backs to paint.
Students were put into groups and each group was given a 'triangle' to paint on. In the end we put the triangles together in the shape of a dome! The art room was a MESS! but the kids had a great time . A very successful lesson!
