I just happened to find some lessons plans from last year. Had saved them on my USB and forgotten about them..( that seems to happening alarmingly often these days!!)
Chuck Close inspired portraits done by my year 2 classes - We looked at the shapes and colours used by Chuck Close and discussed warm and cool colours. I took photographs of the home room teachers, enlarged them to A1 size and cut them into 4 cm squares. Students were , then, instructed to colour in the background in cool colours and the faces in warm colour - leaving out the eyes and the mouth. These turned out so well that we decided to present it to the teachers as a Christmas present from the students. I swore the kids to secrecy and was very impressed that they could actually keep one! the teachers, needless to say, were thrilled to receive their portraits.
